Fifteen AI receptionist services sell to small businesses today. Most of them are built for Americans, and it shows in the fine print.
We looked for the best AI receptionist services for an EU business, one that takes calls in German, handles data like a European company and tells callers it is an AI. Then we scored them on six criteria.
Bunny Honey Club is our company, and we rank it #1 here on six weighted criteria for EU small businesses that we fixed before we scored, using vendor pages we read on 7 October 2026.
How we ranked the 15 services
We picked six criteria an owner actually decides on, and put the weights in front of the scoring. Each service gets 0 to 5 on each. The total is out of 100.
- German on the phone (20 points). 5 means the vendor's own page names German. 3 means it claims many languages without naming German. 1 means English and Spanish only. 0 means it says it is not for callers outside the US and Canada.
- EU data handling and GDPR terms (20). 5 means an EU region or residency anyone can pick. 4 means an EU-established company with GDPR terms stated, or EU residency that is gated or needs a contract. 3 means GDPR or processor terms stated by a non-EU company, with data held elsewhere. 1 means nothing stated.
- AI disclosure and recording consent (15). 5 means documented tooling on every plan. 3 means a configurable greeting plus guidance, or a consent tool locked to enterprise. 1 means not stated. The rule matters: our guide to AI receptionist disclosure law covers what binds you.
- Setup effort (20). 5 means built and run for you. 4 means onboarding help is included. 3 means self-serve in minutes. 1 means you assemble it yourself.
- Pricing transparency (15). 5 means full public prices including overage. 3 means a public base price only. 1 means contact sales.
- Booking, CRM and human handoff (10). Named calendar and CRM connections and a documented transfer to a person.
One scope rule. We only ranked services a small business can start without a sales call. That removes Synthflow, PolyAI, Thoughtly, Dialpad AI, Arini, Adit, Podium, Hatch and Numa. We did score Synthflow, because it is the one that matters: its pricing page lists enterprise contracts from $30,000 a year, and its docs describe an EU-only data region. On our weights it would score 78 and rank second. It is a better answer for a company that can sign that contract. Air AI is out for a different reason, covered in our FTC case write-up.
Every mark comes from the vendor's own pages. For us, that means our own legal notice, privacy policy, service pages and posts, so treat our marks as self-reported.

Ties are broken by the German mark, then by the EU data mark, then alphabetically. Our lead comes from setup, German and EU establishment. We lose points on EU data because our pages state no residency position for call audio, and we are not first on price.
The ranking, one to fifteen
1. Bunny Honey Club
An AI phone receptionist we build, connect to your booking system, test on simulated calls and keep running. Best for: owners who want German and English calls handled without configuring anything. Price (as of 7 Oct 2026): AI Customer Phone Support is $2,750 once, plus an optional $850 a month for support, USD, excluding VAT. Strength: nothing to configure, and a calibration pass before live calls. Limitation: it costs far more than renting. We are a Romanian S.R.L., and our GDPR privacy policy lists US sub-processors without saying where call audio is processed. Pick Upfirst instead if budget decides, or Vapi if a developer needs an EU-region deployment.
2. Upfirst
A self-serve AI answering service with a free 30-minute onboarding call, per its homepage. Best for: a solo owner who wants the cheapest real start. Price (as of 7 Oct 2026): $24.95 a month for 30 calls, $59.95 for 90, $159.95 for 300, $299 for 600, with a 14-day trial and overage of $1.50 a call falling to $0.70. Strength: transparent plans and 35+ languages with automatic switching. Limitation: its privacy policy says customer content is stored in the United States, and it does not name German.
3. Smith.ai
AI receptionist plans with human receptionists available per call behind them. Best for: US and Canadian callers who want a live person on the hard calls. Price (as of 7 Oct 2026): free for 25 calls, $150 a month Pro, $500 Enterprise, with overage of $3.00 a call on Free. Pro includes dedicated onboarding. Strength: AI escalates to a human receptionist, and per its homepage it never claims to be human when a caller asks directly. Limitation: English and Spanish only. Pick Smith.ai instead if your callers speak English or Spanish and you want humans behind the AI.
4. Retell AI
A developer platform for building voice agents. Best for: teams with a developer who want per-minute control. Price (as of 7 Oct 2026): $0.07 to $0.31 a minute, with $10 in free credits and 20 free concurrent calls. Strength: its language table lists German. Limitation: you assemble and test it yourself, voice, model and telephony bill as separate lines, and its compliance docs say it does not operate services in the EU. Our Retell vs Vapi vs Bland teardown has the cost maths.
5. Dialzara
A self-serve virtual receptionist, live in about 15 minutes per its homepage. Best for: a German-speaking owner who wants to set it up alone. Price (as of 7 Oct 2026): $29 for 60 minutes, $99 for 220, $199 for 500, $349 for 1,000, with a 7-day trial and $0.48 a minute over on Lite. Strength: its features page names German among 10+ languages. Limitation: it says data is stored in US data centers and we found no GDPR statement. Pick Dialzara instead if you want German at a low monthly price and will configure it yourself.
6. Vapi
A developer platform for voice agents with a dedicated EU region. Best for: a developer who needs EU data residency. Price (as of 7 Oct 2026): $0 to start with $0.05 a minute hosting, $29 a month Core, $999 a month minimum Pro, with transcription, model and voice on top. Strength: its EU region covers dashboard, API and SIP endpoints. Limitation: the recording consent tool is Enterprise only, and you build the receptionist yourself.
7. Zoom Virtual Agent Receptionist
An AI receptionist that works without Zoom Phone. Best for: teams already on Zoom, or any business with a phone line to forward. Price (as of 7 Oct 2026): $29.99 a month, or $25 on annual billing, for 100 minutes. Strength: Zoom's multilingual guide lists English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese and Japanese. Limitation: 100 minutes works out near $0.30 a minute, and we found no EU data statement on the pages we read.
8. Goodcall
A self-serve AI phone agent that launches in minutes. Best for: a small team that wants a flat per-agent price. Price (as of 7 Oct 2026): $79, $129 or $249 a month per agent, with unlimited minutes and $0.50 per extra unique customer. Strength: unlimited minutes on all three plans, so a long call costs the same as a short one. Limitation: billing is by unique customers (100, 250 or 500 included), and its own comparison page claims 20+ languages without naming them.
9. My AI Front Desk
Now branded Frontdesk. A self-serve receptionist with chat, SMS and a built-in CRM, with setup in 5 minutes. Best for: a business that wants phone, chat and SMS in one tool. Price (as of 7 Oct 2026): $99 a month, or $79 billed annually, with 200 voice minutes. Strength: the bundle. Limitation: its privacy policy says data is processed and stored in the United States, and extra minutes bill in credits.
10. Ruby
Live human receptionists, not a bot. Best for: an owner who wants a person on every call. Price (as of 7 Oct 2026): $250 a month for 50 minutes, $395 for 100. Strength: a human answers. Limitation: minute caps with no overage rates on the page, and Spanish is the only extra language it names. Pick Ruby instead if your callers want a human voice and your volume is low.
11. Bland AI
A voice platform aimed at developers and enterprises. Best for: a technical team with volume. Price (as of 7 Oct 2026): Start at $0.14 a minute with no platform fee, Build at $299 a month plus $0.12 a minute. Strength: one rate covers the model, transcription and voice. Limitation: warm transfer needs an enterprise account, and its security page lists EU data residency as configurable per customer, a contract matter.
12. Trillet
A slim, inbound-only receptionist for owner-operators. Best for: someone who wants a 28-day money-back guarantee. Price (as of 7 Oct 2026): $49 a month with 150 minutes, then $0.20 a minute. Strength: low-friction entry, with no setup fees and a 5-minute setup claim on its pricing page. Limitation: it names no languages we could find, it is inbound-only by design, its self-serve residency option is Australian, and EMEA residency is listed for enterprise.
13. AIRA
A self-serve receptionist, live in three steps. Best for: a small service business that counts calls rather than minutes. Price (as of 7 Oct 2026): $24.95 for 30 calls, $59.95 for 90, $159.95 for 300, $299 for 600. Strength: a free phone number and recordings on every plan. Limitation: call caps with overage from $1.50 a call, 31 languages with German not named, and no EU data statement we could find.
14. Slang.ai
An AI phone concierge for restaurants. Best for: a restaurant that wants reservations handled. Price (as of 7 Oct 2026): Core from $399 and Premium from $599 per location a month, with 97 languages on Premium. Strength: it is built for restaurant calls, with reservations, text confirmations and call summaries listed on its Core plan. Limitation: restaurants only, and no EU data statement on its pricing page. Pick Slang.ai instead if you run a restaurant.
15. Rosie
A self-serve answering service with a 7-day trial. Best for: a US or Canadian small business. Price (as of 7 Oct 2026): $49 for 250 minutes, $149 for 1,000, $299 for 2,000. Strength: the lowest-friction US start, with plans from $49 and a trial before you pay. Limitation: its privacy policy says the service is not marketed or intended for callers outside the US and Canada. For an EU business, that is the end of the conversation.

Pick by budget first, then by who does the setup
Budget draws the first line. Under about $100 a month, you are renting and configuring it yourself: Upfirst, AIRA, Dialzara or Goodcall. Our build-vs-rent breakdown shows where renting stops making sense. Above that, you are paying for someone else to do the work.
Language is the second line. If callers speak German, test a real German call before paying. Dialzara, Retell and Zoom name German. Smith.ai and Ruby state English and Spanish only.
Data is the third. If your lawyer wants EU hosting, the self-serve services here mostly cannot offer it. Vapi has an EU region you pick. Synthflow has one too, at a $30,000 a year contract. Ask any vendor in writing where recordings are stored.
Then decide who does the setup. In our physio case study, rented receptionists ran €80 to €180 a month, and setup took roughly 8 to 15 hours, mostly in the first two weeks. Two of the six practices configured one generic appointment type and got double-bookings. A built-in phone-system receptionist can be enough for a simple line.
Two checks apply to everyone. Hear the agent handle your own call before you pay, and read what customers actually think of AI receptionists. If you only need missed calls caught, text-back may be enough.
If you would rather not spend those hours, we build and run it for you.
Three more from the log.
